SAGE Sustainability and Society Hackathon

Researchers Caspar Addyman, Irene Uwerikowe, and Jerry Ayock hosted the SAGE Sustainability and Society Hackathon as part of the Global Parenting Initiative (GPI), funded by the LEGO Foundation. This exciting event, dubbed “BabyJokes,” brought together innovative minds to tackle the challenge of assessing and improving early parent-child interactions through cutting-edge machine-learning technology.

The hackathon focused on developing automated tools to evaluate key aspects of parenting, such as responsiveness and rapport, by analysing parent-child interaction (PCI) videos.

Participants were tasked with two main challenges: the Modelling Challenge (“Prediction”) and the Business Challenge (“Production”).

This event not only pushed the boundaries of technology in parenting research but also aimed to make high-quality parenting support more accessible, especially in communities where resources are limited, providing personalised feedback, and promoting evidence-based practices.
