Funding was received in February 2024 from CODE Canada (in partnership with We-Care Foundation) to conduct a study entitled ‘Assessing the Feasibility of Introducing Playful Parenting Intervention for Enhancing School Readiness, Foundational Literacy and Numeracy in Crisis Contexts in Uganda’.
This work will take place in the Palabek refugee settlement. Led by GPI Playful Parenting Fellow Dr Betty Okot, the study seeks to evaluate how playful parenting can promote school readiness, foundational literacy and numeracy among refugee and host children (aged 3-8 years) both within and outside the education system.
To date, the preparatory and planning stages of the study, including a literature review, tools development, and mapping of participating schools are progressing well.
District approval has been secured from the Chief Administrative Officer and participating schools have been identified in consultation with the District Education Officer.
