The RELAP study launched in 2025 in Palabek Refugee Settlement (Lamwo District, Uganda) to evaluate Playful Parenting and Family Foundational Stories in early childhood education settings. Baseline data were collected from 213 parents and 213 learners across two schools using various assessments (e.g., EGRA, EGMA, and IDELA), alongside home visits, classroom observations, focus groups, and key informant interviews. Due to large class sizes, teachers struggle with classroom control and learner behavior management during lessons. Moreover, the classrooms lack sufficient space for displaying learning aids and materials.

Despite these challenges, preliminary qualitative insights suggest that the programme is strengthening parental engagement, increasing appreciation for play in learning, and fostering closer relationships between parents, teachers, and schools. Classroom observations also highlighted strong teacher competencies, including effective translanguaging and co-teaching in resource-constrained environments.

Implementation of the intervention will begin in December 2025, with endline data collection planned for February 2026.
