In Jiangxi Province, PLH’s ParentText for Young Children programme has been culturally adapted for delivery via WeChat as Keyushiguang, a hybrid digital–human parenting intervention for caregivers of preschool-aged children. The programme combines short chatbot modules with online group discussions facilitated by preschool teachers and social workers.

Caregivers participate in small moderated groups, where facilitators help reinforce content, encourage discussion, and support engagement. Launched in March 2024, the study uses a pragmatic cluster randomised controlled trial to examine Keyushiguang’s potential to strengthen early learning and stimulation, positive parenting, caregiver wellbeing, and non-violent caregiving practices.

Qualitative interviews with caregivers and facilitators have been completed to enrich understanding of how families interacted with the programme and how content was applied at home.

Emerging patterns from early analysis suggest that the programme is feasible to deliver within preschools and acceptable to caregivers. Initial signals also point toward possible benefits across several areas, including early learning opportunities, parenting practices, caregiver mental health, and reductions in some forms of harsh discipline. Some encouraging trends have also been observed among families of caregivers or children with disabilities, indicating potential for supporting equity.

Follow-up data collection at 6 and 12 months has been completed. The research team is now conducting full analyses to better understand programme effects and implementation learnings.
