In 2024, a two-session parenting programme integrating Parenting for Lifelong Health for Young Children (PLH-YC) and the Mikhulu Trust Book Sharing Programme was adapted and piloted as the Tabudirira (We Thrive) Parent Training Programme for Early Childhood Development. The programme was evaluated in a randomised controlled trial with caregivers of early primary school children (intervention n = 120; control n = 120 receiving a nutrition training programme).
Delivery was facilitated by teachers, school counsellors, and psychology graduates and interns. Data collection comprised pre–post caregiver surveys and qualitative interviews with both caregivers and facilitators. Post-intervention assessments took place six weeks after programme delivery.
Preliminary findings show encouraging short-term impacts, including improvements in caregiver wellbeing, reductions in harsh and punitive discipline, strengthened positive parenting practices, and increased caregiver–child book sharing. A full study report and detailed outcome analyses are underway.
