Dr. Kathleen Murphy is a Co-Investigator and Project Manager for the Malezi Bora na Maisha Mazuri: “Good Parenting for a Good Life” project. With over a decade of research, management, and policy experience, Dr. Kathleen Murphy bridges critical and applied participatory intervention research to understand and inform solutions for reducing family violence and improving the health and wellbeing of equity-deserving groups globally. Notably, for the past eight years, Kathleen has led a program of research for supporting families in street situations in Kenya, including through the participatory co-creation, implementation, and evaluation of the Malezi Bora na Maisha Mazuri program (adapted from Parenting for Lifelong Health).
Most recently, she was Co-Investigator and Project Manager of a GPI Satellite Study seeking to understand gendered and structural factors influencing men’s engagement in the Malezi Bora programme to reduce violence against women and children. Kathleen completed her Doctorate at the University of Oxford’s Department of Social Policy and Intervention and is currently a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Toronto’s Centre for Global Health where she engages in global health intervention research whilst advancing the Malezi Bora program of research. She is also a Lecturer at Dalhousie University’s School of Health and Human Performance where she teaches Programme Planning and Evaluation.
