On 30 July 2025, the Global Parenting Initiative’s (GPI) Parenting for Respectability team at the Child Health and Development Centre (CHDC), Makerere University, in partnership with the Ministry of Gender, Labour & Social Development, marked the International Day of Families in Uganda.
Hon. Mutuuzo Regis Peace, Minister of State for Gender and Culture Affairs, served as Chief Guest, while Dr. Godfrey Siu, GPI’s Facilitate Lead and Principal Investigator for the Parenting for Respectability study in Uganda, delivered the keynote address. His remarks explored how urbanisation is reshaping family life and how evidence-based parenting programmes are influencing policy, strengthening child protection systems, and bridging traditional cultural values with modern child development principles.
The celebration also highlighted major achievements, including the launch of the National Parenting Standards, the Parenting Data Hub, and a nationwide rollout of community-based parenting support training. Together, partners reaffirmed their commitment to advancing policies and initiatives that place families at the centre of sustainable development.
