GPI was proud to be represented at the inaugural Global Caregiver Forum, co-hosted by the WHO and UNICEF, which took place from January 15th to 16th in Madrid, Spain.
The Forum brought together governments, UN agencies, and humanitarian partners to elevate the critical role of caregivers in protecting children’s wellbeing, particularly in crisis and conflict-affected contexts. Speakers across the world shared evidence and experiences highlighting the urgent need for holistic, evidence-based, and well-resourced caregiver support as a foundation for child and family wellbeing.
GPI representatives, including Dr Amanda Sim, Prof Jamie Lachman, and and Dr Isang Awah, contributed insights on scaling low-cost, accessible interventions that strengthen caregivers’ capacity, reduce violence, and promote long-term mental health outcomes for families. The Forum reinforced that investing in caregivers is not only essential for children’s protection but also for building resilient communities.
