Marguerite Schneider is an emeritus associate professor at the Alan J Flisher Centre for Public Mental Health, University of Cape Town. She trained as a speech-language pathologist and audiologist before moving on to applied research in disability studies and public mental health. She has published on disability measurement, the intersection of disability, poverty and social protection, and public mental health. She has been an active member of the Washington Group on Disability Statistics since 2002 and is the co-chair of the Psychosocial functioning measures workgroup. She led the South African recently completed component of the Strengthening Responses to Dementia in Developing Countries (STRiDE).
