Professor Judy Hutchings, DClinPsych, FBPsS, FBABCP, OBE, is a Mentorship Consultant with the GPI. For 37 years, until her retirement from the NHS in 2010, Prof Hutchings was an NHS Consultant Clinical Psychologist in Northwest Wales with responsibility for services for children with behavioural problems and she still retains an honorary contract with the Trust. Since 1988 she held a joint appointment with Bangor University where she is the Director of the Centre for Evidence Based Early Intervention and has continued since that time to run the Centre and work with the NHS, social care, and voluntary agencies on research trials.
Prof Hutchings has been running parenting programmes since 1976 and has published extensively and lectured and taught in many European countries as well as in Australia and South Africa. In 2011 she was awarded an OBE for her work with children and families. She is a founding member of PLH and developed the initial Caring Families programme for parents of 2 –9-year-old children with Dr Lachman. She has trained staff in South Africa and supervisors in the Philippines in this programme as well as training staff in a range of evidence-based programmes in Montenegro, Portugal, Poland, Czech Republic, Australia, Slovenia, and Finland.
