Fiona Burtt is an ECD/nurturing care specialist, with a consultancy focus on strategy, sustainability and story-telling for impact. She has more than 30 years’ experience with complex organizations in the UK and Sub-Saharan Africa and, for the past 16 years, her work has focused on ECD, parenting and children’s sector strategy development, programme innovation and design, research, policy, project management, grant management, training and TA, working with civil society, funders, businesses, multilaterals and government.
Fiona has led teams to design, assess and evaluate ECD programmes and strategies across the region and has written and edited articles and publications in the field. She was previously a Steering Group member of the Global Coalition for Children Affected by AIDS and is a seasoned Chair of boards. From 2014-2021, Fiona was closely involved (as first Advisory Board member and then Intermediary Programme Lead) in the development and implementation of the South African Impact Bond Innovation Fund (IBIF), which launched the first Social Impact Bond for ECD in lower- and middle-income countries. She is an experienced mentor, supporting the professional and personal development of emerging professionals in the ECD sector (currently for the World Bank Early Years Fellowship) and beyond, on three continents. Fiona holds an MA in Archaeology & Anthropology from the University of Cambridge. As a consultant, she is currently supporting the PLH social enterprise on sustainability.
