Dr David Stern is the Innovate Lead with the Global Parenting Initiative, and a member of the Executive Team. A Mathematical Scientist who has varied experience, including leading software development projects, consulting on research methods, he is currently on the council of the International Statistics Institute. David is a founding Director of IDEMS International, a not-for- profit social enterprise devoted to enabling innovations in development, education and the mathematical sciences, and the lead technical partner for the development and implementation of PLH Digital programmes. He has overall responsibility and oversight for all IDEMS PLH work, contributing to the conceptualisation of the PLH digital ecosystem, as well as engaging in the detailed technological implementations of ParentText, ParentChat and ParentApp.
He was a local lecturer at Maseno University in Kenya, where he helped found AMI (African Maths initiative) and SAMI (Supporting African Maths Initiatives). At Maseno he supported the creation of new degree programmes and an eCampus while his innovations in teaching led to him becoming known as a statistics educator with leadership positions in IASE (International Association of Statistical Education) and ISI (International Statistics Institute). He worked for AIMS-NEI (African Institute of Mathematical Sciences Next Einstein Initiative) and Reading University's Statistical Services Centre, before launching IDEMS International CIC. He is committed to the capacity-building of young coders and software developers within Africa, and to technology that is developed in and for low-resource settings.
