Catholic Relief Services, along with the Global Parenting Initiative and Parenting for Lifelong Health, hosted a Positive Parenting Round Table in Harare, Zimbabwe, on 20 January 2023. The event, where government, local implementers and stakeholders discussed positive parenting solutions, generated a great deal of interest, particularly from government officials.
The event was officiated by the Chief Director for Social Development and Disability Affairs from the Zimbabwean Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare, Dr Edmos Mtetwa. Speaking at the event, Dr Mtetwa emphasised the importance of adapting interventions to local cultures. GPI member Dr Nyasha Manjengenja briefed the audience on the Parenting for Lifelong Health suite, followed by Dr Cathy Ward, Noreen Wini Dari and Natalie Davidson, who presented findings from their GPI-supported projects, PLH-SUPER, Adaptation of PLH for Young Children for Schools in Zimbabwe and Coparenting to Reduce Conflict in the Family respectively.
All stakeholders left the event with a renewed commitment to fostering and investing in positive parenting interventions at a larger scale within Zimbabwe.
