Ashlin Simpson was the Project Manager on ParentApp for Teens in Tanzania, a project developing and testing an app based version of the evidence-based PLH for Parents and Teens programme. She worked in the Centre for Social Science Research at the University of Cape Town. An experienced programme manager with a multi-disciplinary background in tech policy and communication science, Ashlin has extensive experience working in diverse, multicultural environments across Africa, leading complex projects involving multiple high-level stakeholders to drive impact. For the past 6 years she’s worked as a programme manager in the responsible internet and responsible technology space, including working on issues around technology and human rights, civic tech, open data, and information disorder, working with various government and non-governmental funders, like the US Department of State, European Union, GIZ, World Bank, and UNESCO’s policy capacity building team. Most notably she led Code for Africa's grantmaking programmes, innovateAfrica and impactAfrica, funded through the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and Omidyar Foundation and the scale up of PesaCheck, a fact-checking initiative, into 14 African countries in 3 languages. She holds an MPA in Digital Technologies and Policy from University College London (UCL).
