Makerere University Develops Parenting Manual | New Vision

A family in Uganda

GPI’s Parenting for Respectability Uganda team at Makerere University, in conjunction with the gender ministry of Uganda, and support from UNICEF, have developed a parenting manual with the aim of standardising parenting within the country.

Per Ruth Muguta, the gender ministry principal social development officer, the parenting manual comes at a time when "it is much needed to support efforts at ending child rights abuse." The manual, according to Muguta, is aimed at reaching parents and discussing with them skills and parental roles to ensure children’s development.

GPI leadership member Dr Godfrey Siu, a senior lecturer at Makerere University, says that "the development of a national manual on parenting is a step towards helping all those doing work on parenting to know that the Government has a clear strategy and a manual."
