Stakeholders in Abuja, Nigeria, have highlighted the need for effective policies and resources to improve parenting methods and help children achieve their full potential. GPI Head of Advocacy Dr Isang Awah presented at a workshop organised by the Gender Adolescent School Health and Elderly Care Division of the Family Health Department, Federal Ministry of Health,Nigeria, in collaboration with the Oxford Policy Engagement Network. The workshop emphasised the need for evidence-based parenting support, accessible policies, and community engagement to enhance child development, prevent abuse and trafficking, and promote positive parenting practices. The Director General of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) stressed the significance of a national policy that provides parents with the necessary tools to protect their children from abuse and trafficking. The workshop also emphasised the importance of raising awareness, and making policy materials accessible to diverse communities, including those with disabilities.
The workshop also discussed a collaboration with the Global Parenting Initiative to provide evidence-based resources to support parents and protect children from abuse in Nigeria.
