About the Role

The Department of Social Policy & Intervention is looking to appoint an outstanding individual for a new Research Manager role to work on our flagship Global Parenting Initiative (GPI). The GPI is a multi-million-pound five-year project with a vision that is bold, ambitious, and immediate: to provide access to free, evidence-based, playful parenting support to every parent, everywhere, so that they are equipped with the knowledge and tools to help their children realise their learning potential. Our research team is committed to improving outcomes for high-risk children and globally, and this is our primary guiding aim.

The Research Manager role is an exciting opportunity to contribute to an innovative research project led by Dr Jamie Lachman in Oxford and Professor Rumaya Juhari in Malaysia. The project includes a formative evaluation to develop and pilot a hybrid human-digital parenting programme delivered within the preschool system in Malaysia and a factorial experimental trial aimed at optimising effectiveness and scalability to improve early childhood development and reduce violence against children.

You will be responsible for managing Oxford’s role on the research project in Malaysia including supporting the study team on research design, data collection, data analysis, research uptake, and partner coordination across multiple international partners including the Universiti Putra Malaysia, UNICEF Malaysia, Parenting for Lifelong Health, IDEMS International, the Malaysian Association of Social Workers, and the Malaysian government.

Our research group is committed to capacity-building and supporting team members to further their careers, and you will be supported to further your career portfolio including writing and publishing first-authored papers. We are also committed to fostering an environment of equality, diversity, and inclusion.

Our team is family friendly and welcomes applications from people with caring responsibilities, and we are flexible to family and other commitments.

The role is part-time (20 hpw) and fixed-term to 30 April 2024. The post is available for an immediate start.

About you

You will have a high level of organisational skills, which you will use to maintain finance and document systems as well as manging the study team to ensure project activities are completed to tight schedules. In addition, you will support the GPI Head of Research by contributing to the development and drafting of funding proposals.  The role will be based in Oxford, though the post holder will work closely with the team in Malaysia.
