Makerere spearheads campaign to prompt parenting at regional level

GPI Lead and Principal Investigator on Parenting for Respectability (PfR) Uganda, Dr Godfrey Siu of Makerere University, spoke during a weeklong regional reflection meeting on parenting at Botanical Beach Hotel in Entebbe, Uganda.
Dr Siu said Parenting for Respectability is one of the programmes responding to the growing demand for evidence-based parenting solutions to end violence against children and spouses in Uganda and throughout the region.
PfR is partnering with Children’s Rights and Violence Prevention Fund (CVRPF) and the Centre for Transformative Parenting to build capacity and scale the programme up in other countries, such as Kenya and Tanzania.
According to PfR project coordinator Carolyn Byekwaso-Namutebi, PfR has reached over 20,000 families in 10 different districts in Uganda.
