GPI's hosts a successful film screening of 'Being family'

Film screening

GPI recently hosted a screening of the film, ‘Being Family’ at the Leonard Wolfson auditorium of Wolfson College. 'Being Family' is a film-based parenting intervention made by the GPI Parenting on the Thailand/Myanmar Border study which is led by Dr. Amanda Sim. The film provides a poignant exploration of the challenges faced by displaced communities along the Thailand-Myanmar border, highlighting both the adversity that families endure and the impact of positive and playful parenting in reducing violence against children and promoting caregiver and child mental wellbeing.

Attendees found the film to be profoundly thought-provoking, sparking meaningful discussions on the challenges faced by migrant and displaced communities as well as the crucial role parents play in fostering strength and stability amidst such turmoil. The screening also catalysed a broader conversation about the potential of film as an intervention tool.
