Durban, 9 September 2023 - Global Parenting Initiative Lead Prof Cathy Ward has received the prestigious Distinguished Women Researchers in Humanities and Social Sciences award at the 2023 South African Women in Science Awards (SAWiSA), hosted by the South African Department of Science and Innovation (DSI). Prof Ward was honoured with the award in acknowledgment of her remarkable contributions to the progress of scientific knowledge and the enhancement of the field of violence prevention research and its practical application.
SAWiSA is an annual nationwide event championing women in the fields of science and technology, spearheaded by the DSI. It highlights women scientists and researchers as inspirational figures for aspiring young women and supports and recognises emerging female talents embarking on their research and scientific careers.
This year’s theme at the Awards, “Harnessing technological change and innovation to achieve gender equality and empower women and girls”, ties in with the Global Parenting Initiative’s mandate of using innovative technology and programmes to ensure that all children, of all genders, are given the opportunity to achieve their full potential.
“Awards like this are very much a team effort, and it's a feather in the cap of the whole team”- Cathy Ward.
