A study analysing over 16 million young people from 25 countries over three decades has found that about one-third of young children and teenagers with disabilities faced emotional and physical abuse, while 20% experience neglect and one in 10 sexual violence. GPI Researcher Dr Zuyi Fang, who co-authored the paper, noted additional challenges facing low and middle-income countries, commenting that legal frameworks to address the issue are urgently required.
