Ukraine Parenting

Overview

The ongoing war in Ukraine is having a tremendous impact on children and families. Children have experienced and witnessed violence, death, displacement, and separation, all of which are serious risks to their mental health and wellbeing. Additionally, with the number of people fleeing Ukraine now over 4.5million, with millions more internally displaced, children are at a heightened risk of trafficking and exploitation.

Our Response

Our Parenting for Lifelong Health (PLH) Team at the University of Oxford, in collaboration with the WHO, UNICEF, UNODC, UNHC, and many other international NGOs and academic partners, have created 14 open-source evidence-based parenting tips to help parents and children cope during this crisis.

These 14 resources, translated into 15 regional languages, include tips to:

  • Help parents and children cope in a crisis
  • Prevent child trafficking and child sexual violence
  • Support children when someone they love dies

All tips can be found on our website, in our Google Drive, and as videos on YouTube.

Reach

So far, these tips have been shared directly with over 100 organisations, including governmental and non-governmental organisations, UN agencies, and academic institutions both within and outside Ukraine.

To date, we have reached over 9.5 million people with these parenting tips, and we will continue sharing with as many people as possible so that they reach the families who need them.
